The Atypical Intentions Podcast

Newsletter #1

Hello Atypical Community!

This is the newsletter that is all things Atypical Intentions Podcast. This will be a quick note giving a quick summary of the podcast, sharing some additional insights, and keeping you up to date with everything coming down the pike.

The First Episode will be published here on December 13th: @LiveAtypicalPodcast

Another really important thing to know, this newsletter is actually written by Kyle Cole, the co-host of the podcast. I have been behind the scenes working with Trey for a few years now, and this podcast is the first time we are doing something together in public.

So this newsletter will also be a little way for you to get to know me better.

Alright, enough of that introduction stuff.

This week, we are going to talk a little bit about who I am. Talk about Ep. 1 of the Atypical Intentions Podcast, and then talk about the mission that Trey and I have for this project.

Let’s jump in.

So who is this Kyle guy?

Trey and I went to Middle School and High School together. Fun story, Trey was a year behind me in school, and when I got injured as a sophomore, I gave up my swing (playing both Varsity and JV) spot to him. He then showed everyone that he was really good at basketball, and I never played organized basketball again.

I switched my focus over to distance running, earned a scholarship, and ran for 5 years in college.

After college, while working a full-time job. I worked on a project in my free time called The Hero’s Journal. We launched our first Kickstarter campaign in 2019, then another in 2021, and the last in 2023.

Over the 7 years of running the business, we sold over 200,000 products in 30+ countries.

Some other things that I have done: (Assistant) Coached a College Cross Country and Track Team, (Assistant) Coached a High School Cross Country and Track Team, and Certified in Endurance Training through the USATF Coaching Association.

Okay, enough about me for real this time.

Episode 1

Episode 1 is actually episode 2 because Trey and I filmed a test episode a couple of weeks before this one. But all of that said, we are new to the game. Ep. 1 ends up with us getting our bearings and getting comfortable with this content style, and I think that we touched on some really important topics that we will expand on over the coming weeks.

The main focus is: how do you take control of your own development? How do you as an aspiring varsity, college, pro, or whatever, become the highest version of yourself, not the mirror image of someone else.

How do you use basketball or whatever pursuit you have to make you, the individual, the best version of yourself?

These are the types of things that we tackle this episode. If that is something you are into, give it a listen.

The Mission

The ultimate mission for this podcast (and this newsletter) is to provide you with helpful frameworks to consider while you grind towards your goals. Because the only thing worse than not hitting your goals is arriving at them and not recognizing the person in the mirror.

We hope that you enjoy this newsletter and the podcast. This is a community project, so we want to hear your thoughts, questions, and concerns. Who knows, maybe we will talk about them on the pod.

If you want to receive more emails about the podcast, all you have to do is respond to this form, and you will get a breakdown each week.

I will leave you with this quote from T.S. Eliot:

“Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different.”
