Real Consistency
Atypical Audit Vol. 8 Weeks of 8/23-9/1
It’s been two weeks since I arrived in my new city of Panevėžys, Lithuania. After just a week here, we traveled north to the Lithuanian Olympic training facility for camp, so the settling-in process has been a bit slower with all the moving parts of preseason. Still, I’ve enjoyed the experience and have been intentional about building routines that promote consistency, both on and off the court.
Lately, consistency has been on my mind a lot. I truly believe it’s what separates good from great. Good is delivering strong performances often. Great is delivering them almost every time.
So the real question becomes: how do we bridge that gap?
How do we find and keep consistency?
Let’s talk about it.

Here are my two most recent vlogs of my preparations to leave to Lithuania and my first impressions of Lithuania.
Hope you guys enjoy.
Understanding Consistency
As I said above, consistency is the differentiator between good and great. Good performers show up most days. Great performers show up every day. We all face the same challenge, and at its core, it’s simple:
How do we show up as our best self as often as possible?
I break consistency down into two main types: physical and mental/emotional. Both require resilience and discipline, but they rely on slightly different “muscles.”
When I say “muscles,” I’m referring to the energy we use to be consistent. I use that word intentionally, because like physical muscles, these energies can be trained and strengthened through repetition or weakened when neglected.
Physical Consistency
This one's more straightforward. Just do the things you know you need to do to be your best self. If an action supports your goals or your growth, then don’t hesitate. Make a plan and execute.
Every time you skip something you know you should do, it chips away at your self-worth. It’s a form of disrespect to your future self. And it compounds. Each missed action makes it harder to take action the next time.
But the good news? The same is true in reverse. Every time you follow through, it builds momentum. That momentum compounds too. So start today. Do the thing. Honor your process. Push yourself forward.
Mental/Emotional Consistency
This one’s a bit more abstract. There’s no clear action step. Thoughts and emotions are constantly flowing. Mental consistency lies in the boundaries we set and the awareness we maintain.
These muscles are being worked 24/7. The goal isn’t to control or suppress emotions, but to manage their impact. Mental consistency is the filter we apply to our reactions. It’s how long we allow a thought or feeling to pull us off course.
Let’s say your goal is to stay level-headed. That doesn’t mean emotional waves won’t hit. They will. But consistency is choosing how much those waves move you and for how long.
The aim isn’t to never react, but to master the reaction.
Lately, I’ve been paying more attention to this mental side. Being in a new environment—with new challenges and strong emotional triggers—has made it clear how much attention mental consistency demands.
Just like with the physical side, I’m noticing that momentum builds here too. When I’m intentional with my awareness and emotional responses, I show up better. But when I’m mentally tired, it’s easy to let things slide. I’ve got the physical consistency pretty dialed in, but mentally, I still let things swing more than I want.
That’s the next level for me: maintaining awareness even when I’m fatigued. That’s where I believe I’ll unlock greater consistency in showing up as my best self.
So if you’re trying to build more consistency in any area of life, here’s a good place to start:
Reflect on your physical and mental/emotional “muscles.”
Are you using them at the level required to build real momentum?
Are you showing up for yourself in ways that build trust and discipline?
Awareness creates opportunity. Opportunity creates action.
Start there… I am, even as I write this.
Upcoming Atypical
We’ve got some major projects in the works for the Atypical Brand.
Some are still in the early research and development stages, while others are moving along faster than expected, which is exciting to see.
I can’t reveal too much just yet, but here’s a small hint about the next launch:
Atypical Athletics.
This will be the most refined and high-quality product we’ve created to date. I truly believe it’s going to raise the bar for what we offer.
I’ll be sharing more of the journey behind this project in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned… this one’s special
Final Thoughts
The best are the most consistent.
So how do they do it?
They nurture and cultivate every part of themselves: physically, mentally, and emotionally.
It’s not glamorous. It’s not easy.
It takes real work.
But anything worth a damn does.
So let’s not shy away from the work.
Let’s lean into it with intention.
Strategic action begins with reflection.
Here we go.
I’m right there with you.
