Atypical Principle #3 “In Due Time”

“In Due Time” became my mantra over the past few months. I was pushing through injuries while navigating the emotional rollercoaster of trying to start a family.

It felt like everything was happening at once, and yet, nothing was going as planned. I wanted to be healthy on the court and for my wife to be pregnant, but things weren’t unfolding on our timeline.

Repeating “In Due Time” helped me stay grounded. It reminded me that it wasn’t a matter of if things would work out, but when.

In the design, you’ll see the basketball character and the clock character side by side with their arms around each other because they’re in this for the long haul. Step by step, they keep moving forward together.

This drop carries a lot of personal meaning, and I know many of you will relate. I can’t wait for you to get your hands on it.

Playing the Long Game

One of my favorite things about basketball is how closely it mirrors life.

A parallel that’s really stood out to me this offseason is the idea of delayed gratification.

Simply put, delayed gratification means trading what you want right now for something even better down the line. The offseason is the embodiment of that. Every day I push myself through workouts, not always because I feel like it (though I do enjoy the grind), but because I know this work will pay off when the season hits.

I’ve been trying to carry that same mindset into my everyday life.
Do I want to clean the house? Not really, but I know my wife will appreciate it, and it’s a small investment in a strong relationship.
Do I want a protein shake instead of Domino’s pizza? Honestly, no, but I know that staying consistent with my diet now means entering the season at a healthier weight, which puts less stress on my joints and sets me up for a stronger preseason, and so on.

What you choose to do today is one of the biggest factors in shaping your tomorrow. The more often you prioritize your future self over your present feelings, the better your future will look.

Now, does that mean you can never indulge in the “right now”? Of course not. But it can’t become your default.

Remind yourself of the bigger picture—and let your daily actions reflect the outcome you’re working toward.

Upcoming Atypical

This is a bit out of the blue, but if you're in the Washington State area…

I’ll be hosting a FREE basketball clinic on Thursday, August 7th from 1:30–4:00 PM for high school hoopers.

📍 Valley Dreams Sports Club — Skagit Valley

This will be my first time running a clinic like this, but I know it’s going to be a great experience. If you're looking to grow your game and pick up a few things to work on before your high school season, this is for you.

Come through, I’d love to meet some of you in person!

As for the latest YouTube video, I tried something new and had a videographer follow me around for a day. It was a completely new experience for me and produced a completely new style of video. I liked how it turned out and am interested to hear your thoughts.

You can watch it below:

Final Thoughts

A new T-shirt.
A new style of YouTube video.
A new experience running a training clinic.

I’m leaning into growth, and that’s what Atypical is all about.

Embracing the new.
Pushing forward.
Challenging myself to keep evolving.

I’m grateful you’re rocking with it.

Let’s keep striving.
Trey
