Let It All Work Out

Atypical Audit Vol. 9 Week of 9/1-9/9

A Small Surprise..

When I released the Atypical Principle #3 “In Due Time” shirts, I originally planned to include some custom sticker packs with the drop. But when the stickers arrived, the cuts weren’t quite what I had in mind, a little too rough around the edges. While the sticker quality itself is top-notch, the overall presentation didn’t feel strong enough to sell on their own.

So, quick pivot: I’ve decided to give them to you instead for freeeeeeeee.

Starting now, every “In Due Time” t-shirt order will include one randomly selected sticker from a set of four limited designs. There are only 50 of each, so yes, you're getting a 1-of-50 sticker. It’s a small surprise, but hopefully a cool one...

Let It All Work Out

Just when you think you’ve built some momentum, life has a way of throwing a wrench in it. And that’s completely normal. Nothing difficult ever goes exactly how you imagined even if you prepared like hell for it to run smoothly. That’s not a bad thing. It’s part of the journey and the process.

When I arrived in Lithuania, I was riding high off a strong offseason. I felt ready. The work was done, and I fully expected to ease right into things with the team. But, in classic fashion... that’s not how it went. A couple days into training camp, I felt a small tweak in my quad during a sprint. I figured it was nothing. Got it checked out and it turned out to be a small tear.

So instead of building chemistry on the court, I’ve been rehabbing during a critical period where the team is starting to define roles and rotations. That’s where I’m at right now, facing a clear obstacle right at the start of the season.

In the past, this kind of setback would’ve had me scrambling for control… overthinking, anxious, frustrated.

But this time feels different.

I’m not sure if it’s maturity or simply experience, but I’ve found a kind of peace in the middle of a situation that would’ve once been overwhelming. What’s been ringing in my head lately is this idea of acceptance, of letting go of the things I can’t control.

As athletes, we’re conditioned to believe in a kind of formulaic success:

  • If I shoot this pull-up jumper 10,000 times, then it’ll fall in the game.

  • If I stick to my plan, I’ll be stronger, faster, better.

And often, that’s true, but it’s not guaranteed. The mistake is thinking it always works like that, or expecting things to unfold on our timeline.

The real challenge is staying grounded when the outcome doesn’t go our way, staying consistent, keeping the faith, even when the results are delayed or look different than we expected.

That’s where belief comes in.

Acceptance of what we can’t control, and belief in the process, more so, in the idea that if we keep doing what we believe is right, things will eventually work out.

Over time, if we apply those two things, acceptance and belief, I’m confident we’ll look back and see a journey marked by growth, consistency, and results that matter.

Upcoming Atypical

I gave you all a small update recently about Atypical Athletics, but I want to give you a bit more insight into what’s coming.

This project is essentially a full revamp of the merch side of things. While we’ll still continue the Atypical “Principles” Collection, I wanted to build out a more versatile apparel line, something that works both on and off the court.

Atypical Athletics will feature bigger drops with more unique and functional pieces. The first drop (date still TBD) will include five items:

  • 2-piece sweatsuit

  • Two different styles of shorts

  • Oversized tank/sleeveless tee

  • Oversized t-shirt

All of these pieces are cut-and-sew, designed specifically to match how I like my clothes to fit, so the product development process is a bit more involved than with the Principles Collection.

I’m expecting the first round of samples in the next couple days, and I’ll be sharing some sneak peeks with you as soon as they land.

Stay tuned, I am excited to bring this vision to life.

Final Thoughts

Basketball and life have a funny way of working themselves out if we just keep showing up and doing what we’re supposed to do.

It might not happen when we want it to, but consistency and belief always get rewarded.

It’s just a matter of time.

Due time… 😉

Appreciate you all.
