Atypical: The Brand

Month of November 2024

Hey guys, here is my monthly review of the various things I have been experimenting with in my processes and systems as a pro. Feel free to respond to this email with any questions about the things I cover.

In case you missed Sunday’s send, check it here.

Now let's get into it.

Some Tools:

Karst Goods

I’ve powered through two journals the last two months. One was a big notebook paper 8×11 notebook paper size and the other was a mini hand-held spiral notebook, both were not exactly what I was looking for.

Then, I was sent these two bad boys and it changed my journaling experience.

Karst Goods Stone Paper Journal + Woodless Pencils

These pencils are smooth as can be to write with and this notebook is the size I want and now need (A5). The notebook is stone paper too which is water-resistant (I spill my coffee way to frequently haha).

If I am going to spend every morning journaling might as well do it as comfortably as I can.

If you are just starting your journaling practice or looking for good journaling materials, then I would recommend you start here.

PureSport

In the past, I have stuck to the basic supplements, protein, creatine and caffeine. Those three are the powerhouses of any supplement rotation, scientifically studied and proven, every athlete needs those three.

Now that I have those dialed, I have wanted to experiment with some other supplements to see if they can help my performance even in the smallest way.

Cordycep mushrooms have been shown to help with aerobic exercise increasing V02 max levels during high intensity exercise (ie. basketball!). Here is the 2018 study found in the National Library of Medicine if you want to read more. You can also check PureSport’s explanation of Cordycep benefits, they explain it in better detail than I can.

PureSport Organic Cordyceps (Mushrooms)

I am a big fan of PureSport due to a majority of their supplements having the Informed Sport Certification that guarantees they are legal for all professional competitions.

I decided to give these a try though I am still to have nailed down if I have noticed a difference.

Will check back in next month with my findings haha.

Some Content:

Building A Story Brand by Donald Miller

For all my aspiring athlete-creators, this one is for you.

If you are looking to start documenting your journey as an athlete and want to learn more about how to frame your content in a way that people want to listen, then this book is for you.

It can get a bit technical and “businessy”, but there are tons of impactful tidbit in here that have helped me continue to level up my messaging in my content.

I listen to this on my drive to practice, not much effort or extra time, but I know I am consuming something that will serve me well.

Founders #366 Mr. Beast Leaked Memo

An awesome listen for all things YouTube and team leadership. Who would of expected Mr. Beast to be a relentless leader that demands excellence from all he comes in contact with, not me… I was pleasantly surprised and ended up learning a bunch from this that I have digested through the lense of my own YouTube channel and basketball team.

Some Creators

Elijah Bryant

Elijah is documenting his overseas pro basketball journey in a way similar to mine. His storytelling is getting better and better with each video not to mention he is cooking in Euroleague this year.

High level hoops, family, holistic living and an all-around good guy that wants to give back to the basketball community.

Nick Bare

Nick is my favorite creator on YouTube because he shows the exact lifestyle that I want to live. He is a CEO of a major company, a incredibly committed athlete, and a present father, all things I aspire to be. His video will get you motivated and moving on your own journey. Good stuff to be consuming.

I hope this did not feel like a big advertisement board.

My goal here was to share what I have been using to level up my mind, body and soul.

If you guys have had significant interaction with me and the Atypical brand, then you know I would only recommend things that I believe could seriously help you.

Let me know if you end up checking any of these out.

I love you guys and I love this community that we are building here at Atypical.

Keep on moving, keep on pushing, keep on living Atypical.

Cheers my friends,

Trey
